Reformer Pilates at Studio Rubix

Usually the idea of waking up before 6am would be enough to send us straight back under the covers, that is until we discovered reformer pilates at Studio Rubix. Located on King street, Studio Rubix provides Palmy locals with a modern take on the traditional gym vibe. Offering a range of different services that includes reformer pilates, personal training and nutrition consulting, their approach to fitness and health is a breath of fresh air. The trainers are super friendly and the décor is modern and welcoming. With a few extra bells and whistles like complimentary towels, toiletries, showers, fruit and carparking, it makes for a great experience.

Studio Rubix also caters for corporate groups who have the opportunity to book a private and fun team-building exercise session or make it a regular thing, and with cooking classes and wellness workshops on the menu, there is something for everyone!

Open 6am – 7pm Monday to Friday.

F45 Palmerston North

One of the biggest fitness crazes to hit New Zealand, F45 offers sweat sessions in the form of 45 minute, full body, high intensity workouts.  With an international cult following, the fitness classes are a combination of high intensity interval training, functional training and circuit training. In other words, they’re an absolute killer! The F45 Palmerston North studio is located on Cuba Street, and their first class of the day kicks-off at 5.15am. To make it easy for customers, they also have a handy app where you can check out timetables and make class bookings.

Open 5am – 7pm Monday to Friday, 6.30am – 10.15am Saturday.

Running along the Manawatu River and He Ara Kotahi Pathways

Nothing beats getting active in the great outdoors, especially when you’ve got views like this! Whether you’re a running fanatic or a casual jogger, the Manawatu River and He Ara Kotahi Pathways offer something for all fitness levels. Following the scenic Manawatu River, the Manawatu River Pathway connects up with He Ara Kotahi Pathway, making for a 16.8km run from one end to the other. For a shorter jog or walk – why not check out the Fitzherbert Avenue Bridge to He Ara Kotahi Bridge Loop (3.8km).

Tip: Both pathways are dog friendly, so you can bring your furry friends along for the fun!

The Dharma Room

The only studio to offer hot yoga in Palmerston North, The Dharma Room is a mini oasis tucked away in the middle of the city. Located on King Street, the studio is large, airy and bright with beautiful wooden beams and floorboards. As soon as you walk through the door a feeling of calm and tranquility washes over you and any stresses seem to disappear. Offering three types of yoga; vinyasa flow, hot yoga and yin yoga there is something there for everyone.

H.I.I.T Fitness

We recently discovered H.I.I.T Fitness, when hunting for a high-intensity workout that could be fit into a workday lunch hour. Located on the corner of Main and Princess Streets, the gym is open Monday to Sunday and offers a range of group fitness classes, including our favourite – the 30-minute lunch time body blitz class. Throughout the day they run bootcamps, boxfit and jiu jitsu classes for adults as well as kids. The best part about the experience…. gym owner Richard has an adorable pug called Pablo who sometimes joins in on the workouts!

Open Monday to Friday 6am – 9pm, Saturday & Sunday 6am – 7pm.

Zenith Fitness

If you want a gym  that’s a one-stop-shop for all your fitness needs, then Zenith Fitness is the place for you. Located on Tremaine Avenue, this 24-hour gym has eight different workout areas to suit all types of fitness seekers. The gym also offers Les Mills group fitness classes, including all of the favourites – RPM, Body Pump, Grit Strength, Body Combat, Body Step and Body Balance. They also offer boxing and yoga classes.

Open 24 hours a day Monday to Sunday.
