While we’ve all been staying safe and staying home over the last few days, in true Manawatū spirit, many locals have been asking, what more can I do to help in the coming weeks?

We know it’s the people that make our region so special and we’ve all seen first-hand that together we can make incredible things happen! So, we wanted to make it easy for you to support one another in a time where we all need it the most by pulling together a list of some local and national organisations that need your help right now.

Food Banks

To provide the fastest and best support possible to the community, the Salvation Army have combined their food bank services with Methodist Social Services, Crossroads Church and Just Zilch, and moved into a delivery-based model. The best way to support the Food Bank is by donating online to the appeal.

Palmerston North Women’s Refuge

During these delicate and difficult times, the Women’s Refuge are still open supporting those in need of a safe space for a night. You can gift a safe night for $20 to someone you will never meet. This will ensure they have a bed, hot meals and a support network during their stay.

Visit their website to learn more about gifting a safe night.

Stay at Home

Remember, even if you aren’t in a position to support any of the above initiatives, you can still save lives – just choose to stay at home!
