The Region has an unparalleled range of facilities and services that promote an active lifestyle. Palmerston North City is home to multiple parks, swimming pools and sports facilities, including Central Energy Arena Manawatu, Lido Aquatic Centre and Robertson Holden International Speedway, while Feilding is home to the Makino Aquatic Centre, Manfeild Park.
Our wider Region also has west coast beaches, the Manawatu River, Te Apiti - Manawatu Gorge, and stunning native bush all within a 30 minute drive from the main living areas, meaning that there is plenty of things to do and areas to explore. Whether summer or winter, there is always something you can watch or join in with.
In addition to our vast sporting community, there are also a number of other recreational activities going on, from community theatre, to book clubs, to gardening groups. Manfeild is known for its world-class motor racing circuit - the longest track with uninterrupted views in the Southern Hemisphere, it is currently the home of the New Zealand Grand Prix. These days the circuit is but one component – much more drives this landmark Feilding facility including agricultural, equestrian and motorsport events.
Central Energy Trust Arena has the reputation of being both the busiest and the most versatile events and activities complex in New Zealand. With 36 different sporting codes being played there regularly, along with trade shows, exhibitions, weddings, dinners, conferences, conventions, meetings, seminars, festivals, concerts and leisure events.
Centrally located in the heart of Palmerston North City, FMG Stadium seats 15,000 people and has been the home of speedway in the City since 1929. From October to April the track hosts hundreds of competitors and thousands of fans from all over the country, as they flock to one of the best-appointed circuits in the southern hemisphere.
Ten different classes race on the clay and lime surface, from the glamour Superstocks and Sprintcars through to Solo motorcycles and Sidecars. February's Superstock Teams Championship is the nation's premier speedway event, when the Palmerston North Panthers play host to other teams from around the country. Other season highlights include the ever-popular demolition derbies, Manawatu championships, and national events.
