Diverse is one of the perfect adjectives to describe the vibrant city of Palmerston North. There is a range of cultures within Palmerston North City and Manawatu, bringing a dynamic international perspective to the community culture.
The Festival of Cultures, held every March, is a vibrant display of culture, colour, music, food and dance. Each year even more of our local ethnic communities add to the colour and vibrancy of the Festival of Cultures, with a variety of local performances from Thailand, Cambodia, Ireland, China, Russia, Indian, Pacific Islands, Latin America and Japan, to name a few.
Food is always a highlight of the festival, with many community groups serving up their traditional dishes, or ‘specialties’ at the world food, craft and music fair.
With food stalls, fascinating performances and information available about various countries on the day, families can experience many of the world’s traditions right here in the heart of the Manawatu.
For those who are interested in engaging and immersing in a new culture, or are hoping to connect with their roots, there are a variety of cultural groups for you to join in our region.
